My Passion & My Work

Hey there and welcome to the Blueye Photography blog. My name is Troy and I'm a wedding and portrait photographer located in Austin Texas. I love making photos that are real... real moments, real smiles, real love. I'm not sure that I can put my photography style into a single category, but you can be sure that I'm looking for the best light and the most creative angles I can.

In my blog you'll find everything from sneak peeks of client sessions to personal information. My life is (almost) an open book and I like to share as much as I can. Most entries will include photos... this is a photographers blog after all. I also love feedback about my photography/posts/website/life so please comment as much as you like. I read them all and try to respond to each and every one.

After you've read through some posts and gotten to know a bit about me feel free to check out my portfolio site using the portfolio link above. The blog is updated more frequently than my site, but you won't want to miss checking out my portfolio either.

Thanks for stopping by.

Miscellaneous Monday #18

Yesterday was my 100th post.  That’s quite a milestone.  It doesn’t feel like I’ve posted that much, but I guess I have.  So far it’s been fun sharing my work, my words, and my life with y’all.  I’m working on a little plan to boost the number of comments.  Look for a post about it in about a week.

————

Who wants a new iPhone?  ooooh… ooooh… me, me, me… I do :)

———–

I don’t know if y’all have watched the first 2 games of the NBA finals between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers, but I’m happy to say that the Celtics are up 2 games to 0.  I don’t know that got into the Boston water supply in the past few years, but that city has become the center of athletic excellence.  If the Bruins could have put together a playoff run Boston could have had all of their major sporting teams make it to the championship games.  Now, I’m not a Laker hater and I should be a Kobe fan since he hails from Philly, but I just can’t get behind the guy.  He has amazing skills, but he is more than little bit arrogant.

———–

No I haven’t given up running, but the past few weeks have seriously derailed my attempt to reach my 10 minute mile goal.  I will start back up and will get back to reporting my progress.

———–

On a somewhat similar note (fitness), if you have a Wii and you haven’t played the Wii Fit you are seriously missing out.  Both our friends Holly and Katie have it and we spent many hours on it this weekend.  Some of the games are addicting, others are strenuous, some are silly, and some are very difficult, but they are all fun.  If I’m not running I should be increasing my Wii fitness… of course that’s if I can find one of my own.  They are sold out everywhere and Ebayer’s are making a pretty penny off of reselling them.  I can wait… I have a treadmill to get on.

Miscellaneous Monday #17

It’s been a couple of weeks since I posted a miscellaneous Monday entry and I nearly missed this one…

I hate getting other people’s mail. Lately we’ve been receiving mail addressed to a woman’s name at our street address. This is on top of the mail that comes to my cousin, dad, brother, mom, and friends. I don’t get it. It’s like the snail mail spammers get a hold of a real person’s name and match it to some available known address and voila… a reason to mail. I’ve asked the post office to only deliver items to us that are addressed to Troy, Melanie, or resident and the response I get is that they don’t care what name is on the package… only the address matters. Grrrr.

I want to learn Italian… badly. I took many years of French back in junior high and high school, but haven’t used it. Not that Italian is that much more useful, but it’s closer to my family. I would love to be able to visit my great aunt’s in PA and have a conversation with them in Italian (they are second generation Italians… with names like Pelligrini, Stadulis, and Giudabaldi). I’m contemplating buying a copy of Rosetta Stone, but it’s expensive. I found someone on Craigslist.com who will sell me an original set of the disks for $75 (the complete set retails for over $400). I’m thinking it’s too good to be true. What do you think?
————-
Melanie and her friend Holly drug me to see the Sex and the City movie last night. I want those 2 hours of my life back. I will admit that I liked the series on HBO, but the movie just didn’t do it for me.
————-
Speaking of movies have you seen the list of summer blockbusters that are going to be released soon?

  • Wanted
  • Hellboy 2
  • Don’t Mess with the Zohan
  • Kung Fu Panda (okay, not a blockbuster but it looks funny)
  • The Incredible Hulk
  • Wall-E
  • The Happening
  • The Love Guru
  • Journey to the Center of the Earth
  • X-Files

————-
Last night I downloaded a couple of new songs that I’m totally enjoying now: Handlebars by Flobots and Let the Drummer Kick by Citizen Cope. I will have to warn you that their melodies are very hard to get out of your head.

Miscellaneous Monday #16

I don’t have many witty or random things to post about today so I’m going to post a few funny photos of me from this Saturday’s wedding and plug a cool local company who will bring a digital photo booth to your reception for everyone to have a great time. Party Booth Pix is the name of the company and though their website is on the photos themselves it doesn’t appear to be working so I dug up some information from the Austin Wedding Guide about them:

Our photo booths have the latest digital and flash technology and will make your wedding unforgettable. You’ll love seeing the reaction of your guests, and the spontaneous poses are priceless.

Unlimited and free for guests, select B&W or color on the touch screen, and the six-pose prints are processed within 15 seconds

The guests had a blast at Jennifer and Lewis’ reception taking funny photos of themselves and making congratulations cards for the newlyweds.

Enjoy this series of me being goofy in the booth. Check back tomorrow for a sneak peek from the wedding.

—————————-
How I Met Your Mother… greatest comedy on television?  If you don’t know who Barney is then you are seriously missing out.
—————————-
I will admit that I’m nearing my tolerance for replacing door hardware.  It had to be done… too much brass in the house.  I’ve replaced all but the last 3 doors with brushed nickel.  They look great.  Thank goodness I’m almost finished.
—————————-
Am I the only person who owns a DVR, but doesn’t fast forward through the commercials?  I like being able to watch TV when I want, but I enjoy watching the commercials as well.  Strange, I know… I’m a marketer’s dream consumer.
—————————-
Firefox and Safari are good web browsers, but you should check out Flock.  It has a great RSS reader built in and seamlessly integrates with YouTube, FaceBook, and Flickr.

Miscellaneous Monday #14

Yay… another Monday has passed.
———————-
My allergies seem to be getting worse lately.  Yesterday was horrible… I could barely breath at some points throughout the day.  Seriously, I sounded like a monster.  All because I was outside for most of the day on Saturday.  I think I need to look into taking a Zyrtec or Allegra on the weekends when I have a wedding.

Anyone have any good suggestions on a good queen size sofa sleeper?  We need to replace the aging futon in the loft with something more grown up.
————————
I got my car inspected today during lunch… my annual pilgrimage to the auto mechanic.  The car passed with flying colors… okay, well it passed.
————————
I’m starting to have Eli Stone withdrawal.  The show had it’s season finale a couple of weeks ago and I find myself missing it now.  Do you have a favorite TV show that you love?  CSI Miami is another one of my favorites.
————————
I ran my mile tonight in 12:19… woo hoo!  Melanie is still ahead of me, but I’m catching up quickly.

Miscellaneous Monday #13

Photographer topic: If you are a fan of Adobe Lightroom and haven’t tried the new LR 2 beta you need to check it out. There are 2 features that I’m really digging: use of a second monitor and localized edits. You can download the beta here: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom/
——————-
Friends topic: We spent a fun weekend with Jay and Nicole… lunch out at the Lakeway Resort on Saturday afternoon… drinks at Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar down on 6th street to end the night. Sunday was a lazy day… sleeping in and relaxing. We hope you guys had a great time while you where here and that you come back soon.

Makes you laugh topic: Ever go to a furniture store and sit on a couch that is a little too big? I felt like a little kid sitting on this one.

Tomorrow is Earth Day. What are you doing to make the world a better place for the next generation?
———————-
My mile time tonight was 14:35.  Shaved about a minute off in a week… not bad.  Melanie is gloating though because she did a mile in 13:25 tonight.

Missed Monday #2 (or is it 3?)

I really should start calling these entries Terrific Tuesdays because Mondays always seem to just come and go and I forget to blog.
—————-
I’m psyched that my good friends Jay and Nicole will be visiting us this weekend. We’re still not sure what the plans are, but we’ll enjoy spending time with them. Here’s a photo of them from our trip to San Diego last year:
Jay and Nicole
—————-
Is it me or is there a random baby head in that photo above?  I can’t believe I hadn’t noticed it until now :-o
—————-
Did anyone catch the Master’s results from this past weekend?  Tiger came storming back and finished in second only a few strokes behind Immelman.  He really is on a different level than the rest of the tour.  If it weren’t for his first round he’d be wearing green now.
—————-
American Idol was surprisingly good tonight.  You’d think that most of the contestants would have had problems with Mariah Carey songs, but they all did really well.  I think Carly Smithson may need to worry a bit since she’s the only one that really drew criticism from the judges.
—————-
Today I made a vow to run a mile on our treadmill each day after work.  I’ve had problems getting motivated to exercise lately and I’m hoping this will stick.  Each Monday (or Tuesday ha!) I’ll post my time to complete the mile.  I’m a bit embarrassed to report that today’s mile was 15:05.  Months and months ago I was closer to 10 minutes so that’s my goal… and my Monday blog entries will track my progress.  Wish me luck!

Miscellaneous Monday #12

I’d like to publicly wish my Dad a happy birthday. His birthday was on the 4th (and yes I did call him and he had a nice cold). Hope you are feeling better now, Dad.
—————–
Have y’all been watching the March Madness tournament? I’m a fan of the Big 12 and both Kansas and Memphis beat my Longhorns, but I’ve gotta go with Memphis. They are a tremendously talented team and they are fun to watch.  Kansas is up by 4 in overtime… completely not like the games that either team had in the last round.
—————–
I don’t know if you heard, but Polaroid announced a few weeks ago that they are stopping production of their famed instant film. I’m really bummed to hear this news. If you feel like I do I urge you to go to SavePolaroid.com and sign one or all of the petitions to get Polaroid to license the production rights to another film maker.
—————–
I hate oak pollen. I did not have allergies until we moved to Austin *sniffle*
—————–
Melanie and I need to get to the Container Store this week and get some organization things. My camera gear is getting out of control in the dining room and we need a new hamper. The problem with that store is that there are sooooo many organization things there that it’s easy to either 1. spend way too much or 2. get overwhelmed and leave with nothing. Fingers’ crossed neither happen to us.

Miscellaneous Monday #11

Another week, another Monday. Today was a loooong day and I’m really tired so this will be a short post.

Yesterday I set a record for the number of hits on my blog (no I’m not going to post the actual total because I’m sure it’s way below the larger sites on the web). Thank you for visiting though :)
————-
While at WPPI I bought Nik Color Efex Pro 3.0… I’m going to have some fun!

—————
I did manage to watch a few of the college basketball games over the weekend. I’m happy to see that my Longhorns made it to the sweet 16. They’ll need to bring their A game next Friday when they play Stanford, though.
—————
If you haven’t heard of Amy Seeley before reading this you really should check out her site. I heard her perform at Jesh’s platform class at WPPI and I was blown away. She is something special.

Miscellaneous Monday #10 (bridal edition)

I will be leaving for Las Vegas tomorrow morning and won’t be back in Austin until late Wednesday night 3/19. I will be checking email periodically so if you need to get in touch with me while I’m away email is the best way to do it.
————————-
I’m going to be very short with my post here and get right to the images because I need to go finish packing. Here are Kendra’s bridals… finally (I would love to post these right after we shoot them, but that could spoil the surprise if we have a curious groom… so we wait until after the wedding to post them). Enjoy!

(7 more photos after the jump)
