Thanks to Thao for coming along and hanging out with me. Here are some of my favorite photos of the day. You can view the complete set I posted on Facebook (there’s a link at the bottom of the post).

While we were scouting we came across a local artist named Jim Huntington who creates these amazing granite and metal sculptures. The variety of sculptures is pretty amazing and we thought it was interesting running into him in the middle of nowhere. We had the opportunity to chat with him for a bit and he told us about a YouTube video that someone made of him recently so you know I had to find it and post it here as well:

These are a couple close ups of the texture in his sculptures (these were shot with a Lensbaby 2.0)

Has it really been 15 days since my last blog post? Shame on me Things have been busy around here (filling print orders, cleaning around the house, scheduling future sessions, and working on albums) and I’m in a bit of a lull when it comes to shooting lately so I haven’t had that much to blog about… buuuuuuuuut I’ve got a topic that I would love some feedback about so hopefully you, oh-so-fabulous-blog-reader, will leave me a comment with your opinion.

The lease on my VW Jetta is up in a few months and I need to start looking for a new car. I’ve informally narrowed the field down to 4 contenders. My criteria:

Must be stylish

Must be reliable

Must have utility (no small cars, but also no monster SUV/Truck either)

Must have 4 doors min (hatch backs are commonly referred to as 5 doors)

Must be automatic (my current car is a stick, but I’m kind of tired of it now… again)

Must have a good stereo option (I love listening to music while I drive)

And here are the 4 cars I have it down to (in the order of preference at this moment in time):

Toyota Venza
Pros: Great style, great reviews, excellent engine, Toyota reliability
Cons: Can’t really find any

VW Passat Wagon
Pros: Okay style (can be pepped up with options), German engineering (I’ve owned 4 VWs)
Cons: It really is a station wagon

Audi A3
Pros: Audi quality, sportier than Passat, good gas mileage, new styling is eye catching
Cons: Smallest of the 4 contenders

GMC Acadia
Pros: Lots of utility, good looking for an SUV, lots of options
Cons: GM is pretty much bankrupt

So what do you think? Leave me a comment and help me decide. I’m planning on starting my test drive runs this weekend.

In case you are wondering what other cars I thought about here’s a quick list that didn’t make the cut:
VW Tiguan, Infiniti G35, Nissan Altima, Saturn Outlook, Nissan Murano, Nissan Titan, BMW X5, Acura MDX/RDX, Toyota FJ Cruiser, Ford Edge

I received my new Canon 5D mk II this afternoon and I think I’m in love

(the above photo was shot with my 1dMkIII)

I’ve only shot a few frames with the 5D (it was a busy day), but the ISO performance is phenomenal. The two photos below were shot at ISO 1600 and are pretty much straight out of the camera (I adjusted the white balance in Lightroom). Wow!

And the most impressive thing about this new camera? HD video! Check out this quick little movie I shot with the 85 f/1.2 @ ISO 1600. I converted the video to black and white, added transitions, and added the music in Apple’s iMovie.
