My Passion & My Work

Hey there and welcome to the Blueye Photography blog. My name is Troy and I'm a wedding and portrait photographer located in Austin Texas. I love making photos that are real... real moments, real smiles, real love. I'm not sure that I can put my photography style into a single category, but you can be sure that I'm looking for the best light and the most creative angles I can.

In my blog you'll find everything from sneak peeks of client sessions to personal information. My life is (almost) an open book and I like to share as much as I can. Most entries will include photos... this is a photographers blog after all. I also love feedback about my photography/posts/website/life so please comment as much as you like. I read them all and try to respond to each and every one.

After you've read through some posts and gotten to know a bit about me feel free to check out my portfolio site using the portfolio link above. The blog is updated more frequently than my site, but you won't want to miss checking out my portfolio either.

Thanks for stopping by.

Krista + Jimmy: the wedding

The day started with a downpour and everyone was nervous about how the rest of the day would play out, but nothing would keep Krista and Jimmy from enjoying their day. I don’t think I’ve ever photographed a more relaxed couple on their wedding day and Mother Nature, while raining down early in the day, cleared things up for us and we had a beautiful ceremony and a serious party afterwards. Congratulations guys! Enjoy this sneak peek.

Big thanks to my friend Dave for coming out and shooting with me.

Venue: Lakeway Resort and Spa
Cakes: Simon Lee Bakery
Decorations: Kennedy Creative
DJ: Capital Disc Jockeys
Flowers: Bouquets of Austin

Krista’s Bridals

Krista and Jimmy tied the knot this past Saturday (photos of their wedding will be posted in a few days) which means I’m finally able to post a few photos from Krista’s bridal session. We shot her session at the beautiful Laguna Gloria. If you get the chance to visit the grounds I highly recommend you do. The location is gorgeous.

Enough about the venue… check out the photos!

New car

A couple of posts back I let y’all know that I was looking for a new car and about a week ago I picked it up… a 2009 Toyota Venza. I was able to negotiate a decent deal with the local dealership and so far I’m very happy. The car has plenty of features, lots of space, a great engine, and stylin’ 20 inch wheels. The color I got is called Sunset Bronze Mica… which I love… it looks more brown when it’s cloudy outside and more bronze when it’s sunny.

I heart faces: week 16 “reflections” adult entry

I’ve been following the I Heart Faces Twitter feed for a while now and had to enter this photo when I saw the theme was “reflection” (not to mention that photographer extraordinaire Nate Kaiser from The Image Is Found is judging). In the meantime you can go check out their site and see all of the great faces.

Today Bella…

Today Bella decided the best way to celebrate Jesus on this Easter Sunday was to sit outside and soak up God’s sunshine.

Matt + Honey: the wedding

This past Saturday Thao and I ventured back out to Coupland to shoot Matt and Honey’s wedding. Like the previous weekend when we were out there scouting the location it was gloriously sunny, but unlike the previous weekend it was chilly (in the 50′s) and windy. The chill nor the wind would keep these two from having a great wedding and fun celebration. Matt and Honey are two of the nicest people you’ll ever meet and I’m honored to call them my friends. Enjoy the photos!

Coupland, TX

It’s been a while since I’ve just gone out and shot for the heck of it and while I can’t say that this trip was really just for the heck of it (I was scouting for an upcoming wedding) it really gave me an opportunity just to shoot for me and have a little fun. Thanks to Thao for coming along and hanging out with me. Here are some of my favorite photos of the day. You can view the complete set I posted on Facebook (there’s a link at the bottom of the post).

15 days!?!

Has it really been 15 days since my last blog post? Shame on me :-( Things have been busy around here (filling print orders, cleaning around the house, scheduling future sessions, and working on albums) and I’m in a bit of a lull when it comes to shooting lately so I haven’t had that much to blog about… buuuuuuuuut I’ve got a topic that I would love some feedback about so hopefully you, oh-so-fabulous-blog-reader, will leave me a comment with your opinion.

The lease on my VW Jetta is up in a few months and I need to start looking for a new car. I’ve informally narrowed the field down to 4 contenders. My criteria:

  1. Must be stylish
  2. Must be reliable
  3. Must have utility (no small cars, but also no monster SUV/Truck either)
  4. Must have 4 doors min (hatch backs are commonly referred to as 5 doors)
  5. Must be automatic (my current car is a stick, but I’m kind of tired of it now… again)
  6. Must have a good stereo option (I love listening to music while I drive)

And here are the 4 cars I have it down to (in the order of preference at this moment in time):

  1. Toyota Venza
Pros: Great style, great reviews, excellent engine, Toyota reliability
    Cons: Can’t really find any
    picture-1
  2. VW Passat Wagon
Pros: Okay style (can be pepped up with options), German engineering (I’ve owned 4 VWs)
Cons: It really is a station wagon
    picture-3
  3. Audi A3
Pros: Audi quality, sportier than Passat, good gas mileage, new styling is eye catching
Cons: Smallest of the 4 contenders
    picture-2
  4. GMC Acadia
Pros: Lots of utility, good looking for an SUV, lots of options
Cons: GM is pretty much bankrupt
    picture-4

So what do you think? Leave me a comment and help me decide. I’m planning on starting my test drive runs this weekend.

In case you are wondering what other cars I thought about here’s a quick list that didn’t make the cut:
VW Tiguan, Infiniti G35, Nissan Altima, Saturn Outlook, Nissan Murano, Nissan Titan, BMW X5, Acura MDX/RDX, Toyota FJ Cruiser, Ford Edge
