My Passion & My Work

Hey there and welcome to the Blueye Photography blog. My name is Troy and I'm a wedding and portrait photographer located in Austin Texas. I love making photos that are real... real moments, real smiles, real love. I'm not sure that I can put my photography style into a single category, but you can be sure that I'm looking for the best light and the most creative angles I can.

In my blog you'll find everything from sneak peeks of client sessions to personal information. My life is (almost) an open book and I like to share as much as I can. Most entries will include photos... this is a photographers blog after all. I also love feedback about my photography/posts/website/life so please comment as much as you like. I read them all and try to respond to each and every one.

After you've read through some posts and gotten to know a bit about me feel free to check out my portfolio site using the portfolio link above. The blog is updated more frequently than my site, but you won't want to miss checking out my portfolio either.

Thanks for stopping by.

Heather, Bob, Cody, Lilly, and Cale

Every once in a while you meet a family that you just know is special. Yesterday Melanie and I had the pleasure of shooting one of those families. Heather and Bob are getting married in Prague in September (yes I would love to be shooting their wedding, but at least I get to do their engagements and Heather’s bridals before they go) and even though Heather isn’t an official member of the family you wouldn’t know it. They are all so welcoming and friendly and the kids are super well behaved. It was an awesome session and I’m totally looking forward to their engagement session in a couple of weeks.

Miscellaneous Monday #20

Evening faithful blog readers.  This week’s miscellaneous Monday post will be short since I’m running low on energy and need to get some sleep.

I should have written about this a few weeks ago, but congratulations to my friends Chrissy and Brent back in Pennsylvania.  Brent recently popped the question and Chrissy said yes.  Y’all might be in the need of a wedding photographer… hint hint.

What I’m listening to while typing this: Satisfaction by Benny Benassi & The Biz

—————–

T-minus 3 weeks until the new iPhone is released.  Though I am planning on getting one I am not going to wait in line at the Apple store for one.  I may swing by on my way home from work and if it’s crazy busy I’ll wait until Sunday to pick one up (Saturday I’ll be shooting Brian and Jeni’s wedding)

—————–

I’ve been thinking about picking up another Drobo recently so I can separate my music and file backup from my photography biz files.  I love the Drobo and if you have no idea what it is you should check it out.

My Wii Fit age went up to 30… probably because of my lazy weekend, but I’ll be working on bringing that back down where it belongs.

A Relaxing Weekend

Melanie and I spent this past weekend at a lake house in Kingsland, TX on lake LBJ… just relaxing from the normal pace of our lives. This was a much needed weekend retreat since I’ve got sessions booked for the next 5 weekends. In addition to relaxing it was also fun to shoot just for the heck of it. Anyway, enough babbling… on to the photos.

Miscellaneous Monday #19

It has been unseasonably hot here in Austin lately.  We’ve already had 12 days over 100 and June isn’t the hottest month of the year.  Just take a look at the forecast through the end of the week:

————-

Anyone catch the playoff at the U.S. Open today?  Tiger is force of nature… bum knee and all.  I’m a bit disappointed that he won because I think it would have been a better story if Mediate had beaten him.  We know Tiger is good… we don’t need to keep hearing it.

————-

I’ve been on a mission to improve my Wii Fit age recently.  The first time I tried it my age was 46 (yikes), but I’m proud to say that I’ve brought it down to 23.  My birth certificate may show that I was born 31 years ago, but my Wii Sports age, my Wii Fit age, and my Facebook Real Age are all in agreement that I’m in my early twenties :)

A couple of our friends are having an art fair this weekend in Leander so if you are in the Austin area and want to check it out here are the details (click to see the big image):

Brian + Jeni: eSession

Yesterday morning Melanie and I met up with Brian and Jeni for their engagement session and we had a great time with them. We decided to shoot early in the morning to avoid the heat and knocked out the session in short order and had plenty of time to run to Rudy’s for breakfast tacos :). We had to change up our original plans of shooting downtown since the ROT Rally was in town the night before, but we still made some great photos. Mother nature even obliged by burning off the early morning clouds so we could have some brilliant sunshine. I am so jazzed to be shooting their wedding at the Lakeway Resort next month. Anyway, enough with the words. Enjoy the photos.

Happy Father’s Day

Over the years my Dad has done a lot of things…

  • Graduated from McCaskey High School (same school his boys graduated from)
  • Joined the Army and survived a tour of duty in Vietnam
  • Married Veronica and started a new family
  • Fathered (arguably) two of the best sons in the world :)
  • Raised his boys to be strong, intelligent, loving, and respectful men
  • Worked hard to support his family for over 30 years
  • Taught me more lessons than I can remember

The most important thing he has done is to be there when I needed him… to mend scraped knees, to teach me to throw a baseball, to see me graduate from high school and then college, to help move me 1800 miles away from home, to watch me marry the girl of  my dreams, and to congratulate me on all of the other small accomplishments in my life.  It seems like such a simple thing, but it has meant the world to me.  Happy Father’s Day Dad!

And what good is a blog post without photos :)

Then (yes that is me on his shoulders)…

Now…

And here’s a photo of the two greatest Dad’s in the world… my Dad and Melanie’s Dad

Miscellaneous Monday #18

Yesterday was my 100th post.  That’s quite a milestone.  It doesn’t feel like I’ve posted that much, but I guess I have.  So far it’s been fun sharing my work, my words, and my life with y’all.  I’m working on a little plan to boost the number of comments.  Look for a post about it in about a week.

————

Who wants a new iPhone?  ooooh… ooooh… me, me, me… I do :)

———–

I don’t know if y’all have watched the first 2 games of the NBA finals between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers, but I’m happy to say that the Celtics are up 2 games to 0.  I don’t know that got into the Boston water supply in the past few years, but that city has become the center of athletic excellence.  If the Bruins could have put together a playoff run Boston could have had all of their major sporting teams make it to the championship games.  Now, I’m not a Laker hater and I should be a Kobe fan since he hails from Philly, but I just can’t get behind the guy.  He has amazing skills, but he is more than little bit arrogant.

———–

No I haven’t given up running, but the past few weeks have seriously derailed my attempt to reach my 10 minute mile goal.  I will start back up and will get back to reporting my progress.

———–

On a somewhat similar note (fitness), if you have a Wii and you haven’t played the Wii Fit you are seriously missing out.  Both our friends Holly and Katie have it and we spent many hours on it this weekend.  Some of the games are addicting, others are strenuous, some are silly, and some are very difficult, but they are all fun.  If I’m not running I should be increasing my Wii fitness… of course that’s if I can find one of my own.  They are sold out everywhere and Ebayer’s are making a pretty penny off of reselling them.  I can wait… I have a treadmill to get on.

The weekend ends :(

Another weekend comes to a close and I find myself wishing I had more hours before the work week begins. We had a busy weekend… Friday evening we drove up to Dallas to visit with Holly and Matt, Saturday afternoon we drove back and had Katie over to celebrate her birthday (I grilled up some food and we hung out and played the Wii), today we slept in and did some shopping, and I worked on photo processing tonight. Even doing all of that I feel like I need one more day to really feel like I’ve accomplished something. Anyway, good luck to y’all as you dive into the new work week.

On a side note I’ve been a bad son lately and haven’t been calling my Mom as often as I should. You can bet there will be a call made tomorrow night :)

Here are 2 photos of Bella and I from our little road trip on Saturday. Enjoy.
