My Passion & My Work

Hey there and welcome to the Blueye Photography blog. My name is Troy and I'm a wedding and portrait photographer located in Austin Texas. I love making photos that are real... real moments, real smiles, real love. I'm not sure that I can put my photography style into a single category, but you can be sure that I'm looking for the best light and the most creative angles I can.

In my blog you'll find everything from sneak peeks of client sessions to personal information. My life is (almost) an open book and I like to share as much as I can. Most entries will include photos... this is a photographers blog after all. I also love feedback about my photography/posts/website/life so please comment as much as you like. I read them all and try to respond to each and every one.

After you've read through some posts and gotten to know a bit about me feel free to check out my portfolio site using the portfolio link above. The blog is updated more frequently than my site, but you won't want to miss checking out my portfolio either.

Thanks for stopping by.

Miscellaneous Monday #2

Continuing the tradition started last week welcome to another miscellaneous Monday…

Congratulations to the Boston Red Sox for winning the World Series. My friend Michelle (who lives in Boston) had her broom out last night in celebration of the sweep of the Rocks (yeah, she texted me right after the end of the game to tell me that). It was an entertaining series and I confess that I love the playoffs… any playoffs (the sport doesn’t matter). Speaking of which, when will the powers that be figure out that the best way to crown a college football champ is to have a playoff?

I’ve got 2 client orders to process tonight and I’m finding nearly any excuse I can to procrastinate (like blogging). If you’re reading this and you are one of those 2 clients I swear I’m going to get the orders sent to the lab tonight :-).
——————————————————————————————–
My favorite song of the moment: Such Great Heights by The Postal Service. Melanie has been on a hunt for good music lately… music to chill to, music to work to, and music to put in slideshows. She downloaded a whole bunch about a week ago and I’m hooked on this song.

Anybody else have a crazy dog? Our dog makes the strangest noises sometimes. Tonight she was scooting around the living room on her back snorting. See, I told you… cra-zee.
——————————————————————————————–
I’m still on the fence about attending the next Anti-Workshop. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the previous two and I could really use a jolt in my creativity. It’s not the money that’s holding me back either… it’s the intimidation being around all of the other photographers. I know it’s all in my head. Somebody leave me a comment and convince me to just do it.
——————————————————————————————–
Today I learned that one of the old Victorian houses on 8th and Guadalupe was the first residence in Austin to have indoor plumbing.
——————————————————————————————–
I upgraded to Mac OS X Leopard over the weekend. For the most part things have been going well (both the Mac Pro and MacBook got the upgrade), but there are a few strange things happening. When I got home today the MacBook was shut, but the fan was running high speed. I flipped it open only to find that the OS was locked up so I forced a shut down and let it sit. The Mac Pro completely ran out of memory Saturday night (and I mean completely… 16mb available out of 3gb installed). All I could do was reboot. The pros definitely outweigh these few cons… cover flow in the Finder rocks and quick view is a huge time saver.

Until next time.

The Obuchowski Family

Today Melanie and I had the pleasure of visiting with the Obuchowski’s and photographing their wonderful family. I’ve known both Ed and Katy for about 7 years now and it’s fun seeing their family grow. Sam and Eddie are fun little kiddos and each has a very distinct personality. We shot inside for about 45 minutes and both of them were much happier once we headed outside . And who could blame them? It was a beautiful day here in Austin. Enjoy the sneak peek guys.

Miscellaneous Monday

Time for something new on the blog. Monday’s I’m going to post a few random thoughts or observations I had over the past week. Perhaps they’ll lead to some profound enlightenment (unlikely). Perhaps they’ll lead to some laughter (very likely). In any event enjoy and let me know what you think by leaving a comment.

My Philadelphia Eagles suck this season :(. They’ve lost all of the dominance they’ve had over the past 5 years.

What the heck is up with the weather here lately? Yesterday it was mid 80′s. Today it was mid 50′s.

I seriously need to get more sleep. I’m barely keeping my eyes open at this point, but I need to finish uploading some photos for a client.

Bella freaked out tonight when I was petting her. Apparently her hind quarters are really sensitive and she yelped and snapped at me. Strange.

Did you see the price of Apple’s stock today? It closed up $4 a share, but after they announced earnings for another phenomenal quarter the stock shot up another $13 a share. That company is a gold mine.

The Stevens Family

This morning Melanie and I visited with the Stevens family… Emily, Scott, and Nicholas. We had a blast, though Nicholas didn’t agree with us for portions of the shoot. We worked through the unhappiness and ended up with some great photos. Somewhere along the way their dog, Gus, got ticked off at me invading his space and bit me in the face. No worries though… he didn’t break the skin. The funniest thing was right after that he rolled over on his back and wanted a belly rub… and me being the dog guy that I am couldn’t resist :). Enjoy the preview guys.

My favorite model

TexasPhotoForum.com is chock full of great photographers and amazingly generous individuals. I’ve been contemplating upgrading my camera bodies and I posted a thread about it in the forums and one of the local members offered to let me borrow the camera as well as a really expensive lens I’m thinking about buying. His generosity floored me and I hope that one day I’ll be able to pay it back. With the borrowed combo (Canon 5D and Canon 85mm f/1.2) I photographed my favorite model as she rested under the coffee table. These were shot around 10pm tonight using available light only. Wow!

Rayna + Mike: the wedding

Yesterday Rayna and Mike tied the knot at the always beautiful Lakeway Resort and Spa under a blue sky and brilliant sun. Their ceremony and reception were attended by 20 of their closest friends and family which makes this the smallest wedding that Laura and I have shot (a welcome change from the larger weddings we’ve done). Rayna and Mike are a fun, laid back couple and they brought that nature to their wedding day. Laura hung out at the Resort with the girls while they got ready and I woke up the guys and took them to Mulligan’s in Lakeway for some pre-wedding fun (you’ll have to check out the pool shooting photo below). Everyone gathered on the back balcony around 6pm for the ceremony, followed by some fantastic sunset photos, and one heck of a party. It was a great day and we had a lot of fun being a part of your day. Congratulations guys! I hope the hangovers weren’t too bad today :)
