My Passion & My Work

Hey there and welcome to the Blueye Photography blog. My name is Troy and I'm a wedding and portrait photographer located in Austin Texas. I love making photos that are real... real moments, real smiles, real love. I'm not sure that I can put my photography style into a single category, but you can be sure that I'm looking for the best light and the most creative angles I can.

In my blog you'll find everything from sneak peeks of client sessions to personal information. My life is (almost) an open book and I like to share as much as I can. Most entries will include photos... this is a photographers blog after all. I also love feedback about my photography/posts/website/life so please comment as much as you like. I read them all and try to respond to each and every one.

After you've read through some posts and gotten to know a bit about me feel free to check out my portfolio site using the portfolio link above. The blog is updated more frequently than my site, but you won't want to miss checking out my portfolio either.

Thanks for stopping by.

It’s been a while

Yeah, I know… I’ve been slacking in the blog department lately.  The main reason is that I’ve decided to take a few weeks off and not shoot… trying to slow down at the end of the year and enjoy the holidays.  No shooting means I don’t have anything new to share.  Maybe I should go through my 2007 photos and pick out some favorites that y’all haven’t seen and post them.  I think I have an idea for a post this weekend :-).

For now I’d like to help any readers out who are doing some online shopping this season.  One the hardest things to get a sense of is whether or not the website where you just found the best price on those heated MP3 slippers is really legit.  Luckily there is a website that can help us figure that out.  Before you buy anything from a website you’ve never visited before go to http://www.resellerratings.com and find the store and see what other people say about the site.  It could save you a headache and some lost money.

Another useful site is http://www.howitsucks.com.  On this site users tell the world about how a particular product sucks.  Use this site to find out if those heated MP3 slippers are a cool product or a dud.  This site will save you from being THAT guy… you know, the one who gave the worst Christmas gift this year.

Hope your Christmas preparations are going well and shopping has been fun.  We put up our tree about a week ago, but I still have to put the lights up outside.

Until next post.

Happy Thanksgiving!

To everyone who reads my blog or visits my site, I am truly thankful for your interest in my world.

To my customers, you rock!  You make this job worth doing.

I hope you had a wonderful day stuffing yourself with various yummy foods.  Melanie, Bella, and I spent the day traveling to Fort Worth to be with family, stuffing ourselves, and then driving back home.

Good luck to everyone who’ll be braving the Black Friday crowds in a few hours.  I’ll be in dreamland when you begin your shopping day :-)

Missed Monday :(

Oops… yeah, I forgot to blog yesterday.  I’m not sure if it just didn’t register that it was Monday or if I was too tired and called it a night before thinking about blogging.  In any event here are a few thoughts for today to make up for missing yesterday…

For those of you who haven’t been run over by the musical freight train lately today was the DVD release of Hairspray.  Melanie has gone gah-gah for musicals and made sure she got to Best Buy early today to snag her copy.  I watched it tonight with her… it’s a fun movie… my favorite song is Ladies Choice.
——————————————————————————
My Philadelphia Eagles beat the hapless Miami Dolphins on Sunday.  No surprise there, but it’s nice to get back to a .500 record.  Still way out of first place in the NFC East… damn Cowboys.
——————————————————————————
I bought a ShootSac last week and used it for the first time this weekend shooting Yuani and Frank’s Christmas photos.  This is one stylish, handy, and comfortable bag.  They don’t always have the most masculine covers (other than the plain black) so I had to jump on purchasing one when I saw that the Swanky cover was available.
——————————————————————————
I still can’t believe that Thanksgiving is only 2 days away.  Where has this year gone?  Melanie, Bella, and I will be spending the day in Dallas with family.  I’ll be sure to hate on the Cowboys during their game :)

Yuani and Frank

What can I say about Yuani and Frank? They are 2 fantastic people who I’ve come to know over the past year and a half. Today we visited them to shoot some photos that they are going to use for Christmas cards. I think these came out great and wanted to put a few sneak peeks up on the blog. Let me know what you think.

The Robson Family

Today Melanie and I visited with the Robson family and had a fun time taking photos for their Christmas cards. Gianna was being a little stinker, but we waited her out and got some cute photos of her with Mommy and Daddy. We tried getting a family portrait, but she would have none of that so we just worked with what she gave us. It’s always fun seeing how the little ones are growing… we’ve photographed her ever since she was 3 months old… what a cutie. Enjoy the photos.

Miscellaneous Monday #4

I don’t have much to write tonight so I’ll be quick so I can get to bed earlier than normal (go me!)…

This weekend, even though not a shooting weekend, was very busy.  I had a laundry list of things to take care of and I managed to check off all of them.  Sure it took me until 1am this morning to do it, but hey, they’re all checked off :-).
—————————————————
Today is Veteran’s Day and my thanks go out to all of the men and women who’ve served our country bravely.  I’ll always be indebted to you for your selflessness.
—————————————————
If you haven’t seen the new Get a Mac ads you really need to check them out.  Choose a Vista is hilarious (as are the rest of them).
—————————————————
My mind is a completely blank slate right now, signaling that it’s time to end this post and get some sleep.  Later y’all.

Rambo

Even though I had the weekend off from shooting I wanted to post a couple photos of the Obuchowski’s beautiful Golden Retriever, Rambo.  I’m just finishing up the processing from their session (yes, I know I’m behind on my processing) and these photos just make me smile.  We really need to setup a play date and have Bella meet Rambo.

It’s been a pretty crazy past 2 months and I know it took me a little longer than usual to get the proofs ready, but I hope the wait was worth it.  Here’s Rayna and Mike wedding slideshow.  Enjoy.

Miscellaneous Monday #3

After weeks of contemplating, discussing, floundering, thinking, and talking about it I finally decided… I’m going to the Anti Workshop!

—————————————————————–
Contrary to many Cowboys fans’ opinions, last night’s football game sucked.  Take it from this Eagles fan, it wasn’t a good game.
—————————————————————–
Laura and I shot our last wedding of the year this past weekend (see the previous post).  Total weddings shot this year: 5
03/17/2007: Nicole and Keith
09/08/2007: Candice and Gunnar
09/22/2007: Liz and Scott
10/06/2007: Rayna and Mike
11/03/2007: Heather and Abraham

With 80% of the weddings coming in the past 2 months it’s no wonder it felt like a busier year than it was.
—————————————————————–
I know that it’s said that when we fall back after daylight savings time we should get an extra hour sleep, but it never seems to work out that way for me.  I’m still just as tired today as I was on Saturday.
—————————————————————–
Last week I bought a Mossimo baseball cap at Target that is partially made of that mesh material that athletic shorts are made of.  This hat rocks!  It’s very comfortable and fits my head perfectly.  I’ve been looking online for other hats like it and I can’t find any which is a bummer because I’d like to get another one.
—————————————————————–
If you haven’t heard of Drobo before you really should check it out.  Scalable backed up storage is a wonderful thing.
