My Passion & My Work

Hey there and welcome to the Blueye Photography blog. My name is Troy and I'm a wedding and portrait photographer located in Austin Texas. I love making photos that are real... real moments, real smiles, real love. I'm not sure that I can put my photography style into a single category, but you can be sure that I'm looking for the best light and the most creative angles I can.

In my blog you'll find everything from sneak peeks of client sessions to personal information. My life is (almost) an open book and I like to share as much as I can. Most entries will include photos... this is a photographers blog after all. I also love feedback about my photography/posts/website/life so please comment as much as you like. I read them all and try to respond to each and every one.

After you've read through some posts and gotten to know a bit about me feel free to check out my portfolio site using the portfolio link above. The blog is updated more frequently than my site, but you won't want to miss checking out my portfolio either.

Thanks for stopping by.

Where have I disappeared to?

It has been an incredibly long time since I last posted. As you’ve probably surmised (if you look back over the history of the blog) I’ve been spending all of my time focusing on family. My photography business started out as a second income so I was trying to essentially balance two careers and home life. About 2 years ago we had our first son and soon thereafter I was promoted at my full-time job (more responsibility and more hours at the office). Those two events combined to take up all of my time and I decided that I didn’t want to spend any more weekends away from my family shooting weddings. I put the photography business on hold and it’s been on hold ever since.

Last week we welcomed our second son into the world and my life is going to be turned upside down (again). You can see a couple of photos of Nathan below and can check out more photos at our family blog.

I know that I’m still getting some traffic to my main website as well as this blog and wanted to put up a post for those visitors. My photography business is on hold indefinitely and I’m not taking on any new customers or shooting for any existing customers. If you need referrals please let me now because I know quite a few great photographers in and around Austin.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and the Happiest of New Years!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

In all of my traveling over the past 2 weeks I neglected to make a Christmas post on the 25th (oops!). Here’s a make-up post to cover Christmas and New Year.

I hope that you and your family had a wonderful Christmas full of warmth, love, and surprises and that you found some time to just lay back and look at the lights. Best wishes that 2010 proves to be even better than 2009 for you and yours!

Happy Thanksgiving!

From all of us here in the Blueye Photography family we wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving!

Where does the time go?

It has been ages since I last posted (yeah, I’m a big slacker). Since I’m not taking bookings right now I’ve been spending a good amount of time photographing my son… he’s kind of irresistible :) Please forgive me and go visit our family blog to see more photos and videos of the little man.

Dear World, Say Hello to My Son

Warning: this post is sappy… I can’t help it…
There are few events in a man’s life that can move him to tears just by thinking of them:

  • The day he got his first car
  • The moment his wife agreed to marry him
  • The day he said I do
  • The day his grandmother passed away
  • The day his child was born

On 8/28 I had the pleasure of being witness to the birth of my son and I am forever changed. The strength that my wife has is immeasurable and our love has deepened over the experience of creating a new life and we’re blessed to be able to go through this wonderful journey. A post wouldn’t be a post without photos so here are a few to commemorate the event.

The Social Media Revolution

Saw this little video over on Becker’s Blog and thought I’d pass it along. It’s astounding how many people joined the social networking blitz in such a short amount of time. I can’t tell you the number of times I heard news first through my Facebook and Twitter connections (Mike Vick signing with the Eagles was the latest news story to hit my radar via a social network).

Take a few minutes to watch this video… some of the statistics are eye opening.

August 15, 2009 - 11:20 pm Michele - It really is incredible to be a part of something that will forever change our history. Quite the revolution for sure. (Is it me or did the music on the video creep you out just a teensy bit?)

Where oh where have I been?

I think Ferris Bueller said it best: “Life moves pretty fast. You don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

Things in the Schneider house have been going full steam ahead. Our little one is expected in the next few weeks so Melanie and I have been working on the house… last minute preparations… and working on choosing a pediatrician and childcare/pre-school. It’s much more daunting than we thought, but the best we can do is make an informed decision and see how it goes. We can always change if something doesn’t feel right.

Due to the imminent arrival of our son I’ve also been trying to fulfill any open orders and close up my open albums so if you are a client and want something printed in the next 3 months you should really try to get your order in now.

Speaking of photos Melanie and I had a session with the awesome Wiebners (Joel and Rita) while in Lancaster in June. Here’s a sample from the session and if you click on it you’ll link to their blog where you can see more of us.

Also, if you are interested in seeing a couple of the maternity photos that Michele at Pinkle Toes Photography took of Melanie check out this post on her blog (hint: she’s the beautiful one in the bright green dress). Michele is awesome and will be doing our newborn session once the Peanut arrives. You can bet we will be sharing all of the wonderful photos from that session along with the many, many, many (did I say many?) photos that I will be taking once he’s here.

That’s all for now. I’ll post some photos of the nursery once we get it all finalized… it still needs a few more things (couple of wall shelves and curtains)

Big family = big fun!

When you are booked for an outdoor family session in the middle of the Texas summer you really hope 1. that it’s not going to be as hot as the weatherman predicts and 2. that your clients are fun, relaxed, and open to whatever you want to do. Well…I can’t say that it wasn’t hot yesterday morning (it did hit 103 later in the afternoon), but I definitely landed an awesome family that I had a blast hanging out with and getting to know. Big thanks to Kathie Tam from Pixie Dust Photography for coming out and helping me with the shoot.

Location: Laguna Gloria

Here they are… all 9 of them! Aren’t they a great looking family?

Give it up for the high five!

March 25, 2010 - 7:42 am Trendy Bride - Love the series shot of the family with everyone's head shot .. Great Job !!

Happy 4th!

In years past Melanie and I would have spent today bouncing from party to party having a great time visiting with friends and ending the day watching a dazzling fireworks display light up the sky. This year, however, we opted to go more low key and spend the holiday at home. She’s 7 months pregnant and I have a ton of things to do around the house to get ready for the baby so it felt better for us to be home bodies. We’ve cleaned, painted, repaired, washed, and folded, but we’ve still found time to grill up some food and watch a couple of movies. Now if I could just manage to get to bed before 1am… sigh.

Happy 4th everyone!

A post without a photo just isn’t right so here’s a couple of photos of the nursery in mid-paint-state. Hopefully I can get the painting finished up tomorrow and we can start decorating next week.
